A German research institute developed a method to protect plants against fungal infection by recombinant
antibodies linked to anti-fungal peptides. Lab tests have been carried out successfully. Partners are sought for
technical co-operation, further research and transfer to new applications.
A Maltese inventor has developed an innovative tractor-drawn machine which when advanced through stone
containing surfaces or fields, it excavates the soil and the contained stones are dislodged/separated from the soil
and discharged into a stone collecting bin or container. The developer is looking for a manufacturing agreement
with a partner interested in further development and assembly of the technology, and/or a licensing agreement.
An Italian research centre has developed a new olive processing system. Olive enzyme processing aids have not
been officially recognised (see Reg CE 1513/01) but a spontaneous use of them is done in Italy and other olive
countries. Therefore, their recognition is expected to be accomplished in a near future. In addition, other enzyme
formulations, such as Cytolase 0, Maxoliva, Bioliva, Rapidase and Clarex have been successfully tested in the last
few years. Technical cooperation is sought.
A French company has developed a technology for production of new stabilised nuggets through extrusion cooking.
There are two types of nuggets with specific characteristics. Both of them are milk-based. The company is looking
for an industrial partner interested in this innovative product in order to sign commercial agreements with
technical assistance.
A Catalan technological centre has developed a technology for obtaining grape tannins from wine production waste
by means of direct solubilisation by chemical reaction under pressure and high-temperature conditions, and
further purification and concentration. The centre is looking for commercial agreements with technical assistance.
A multinational company with a branch in Catalonia has developed an innovative system to maximise quality for
processed meat products and is based on alginate meat binding. Such products include formed meat, ‘traditional’
cooked, processed meat products, emulsified meat products or whole muscle products. They are seeking partners
for technical cooperation agreements.
A UK company has developed a compact blood/air mass exchanger, with a means for connecting the exchanger to
the blood supply and a novel control system integrated with the natural respiratory control system. The device
directly oxygenates the blood without using the lungs, and is for use by patients with severe lung damage. It is
designed for use by conscious mobile patients. A technical cooperation agreement is sought for in vivo testing of
the equipment in the human and veterinary markets.
Researchers at a UK university have developed a new method incorporating a process called Visual Moving Features
(VMF) for detecting pulmonary nodules. Visual Moving Features detects a predefined structure in a subject by
image analysis based on a representation of the structure constructed across a number of parallel image planes.
They are looking to license this technology to potential partners.
A Lithuanian SME developing and producing laser systems for medical and industrial applications has developed a
“pocket-size” laser-magnetic therapeutic device for treatment of illnesses in various fields. The proficiency of cure is
based on non-contact exposure of biological material to laser radiation and magnetic field at the same time. Medical
institutions and medical equipment distributors are sought for a commercial agreement with technical assistance.
A Finnish university group has developed an improved drug dissolution method that can be combined with the
current drug dissolution test systems. This combination allows simultaneous measurements: a) the concentration
of the dissolution medium and b) the solid-state properties of the sample being dissolved. This will bring benefits
throughout the whole product lifecycle. The inventors are looking for industrial partners interested in further
development and manufacturing.
A Catalan company has developed a product that offers alternatives, based on biotechnological processes, to traditional
chemical synthesis. Partial or total substitution of traditional steps in the manufacturing of chemicals may lead to more
efficient utilisation of energy and materials. The product developed offers many possibilities of customisation to the
needs of the client. The client is seeking partners with whom to reach to manufacturing agreements.
An Italian university research group offers its know-how for preparation, characterisation and development of a
new versatile polymeric blend that can be injected as a solution and easily transformed into a hydrogel. Such
hydrogel appears to be suitable for drug delivery, tissue engineering as well as for applications in other different
fields. The researchers are looking for pharmaceutical, cosmetic, surgery and biomedical industries for technical
cooperation or joint venture agreement.
An Italian research centre has developed a new composition containing dolichol for dermatological and cosmetic
use. This invention relates to cosmetic and dermatological compositions containing dolichol, which prevents the
harmful action of light, free radicals, oxygen and skin aging, and regularises skin pigmentation and sebum
secretion. This activity is performed by enhancing skin natural defences. The research centre is looking for SMEs for
commercial agreement and financial resources.
