A small Italian firm has developed an autonomous system for production of solar electric energy
24h/24. It is flexible and allows having the quantity of wanted energy in relation to the power set in the
design phase, integrating itself with the usual power grid as established by the consumer (when and
how much). The system uses photovoltaic panels, a multipurpose uninterruptible power supply and a
module of storage batteries. The firm is interested in licensing the system, manufacturing & sales.
A Dutch university has developed a fluorescent biosensor to monitor protein redox activity. Optical
rather than electrochemical detectors enable superior sensitivity & efficiency in detecting the
electron transfers in biochemical reactions, and facilitate miniaturisation. Detection can be applied in
pharmaceutical diagnostics, biochip, metabolic profiling, industrial bioreactors or environmental
monitoring. Partners sought in industry for further collaborative development or licensing agreement.
An Italian university research group has developed a new surgical apparatus and a method for treating
biologically hard tissues. This apparatus is based on an optical fibre waveguide structure that allows it
to be integrated in a compact system and in portable devices. The university is looking for industrial
companies working in the medical sector and interested in license agreements on the patent.
A UK university has developed a method for making 3D cell culture systems for adipocytes (fat cells).
The cells closely simulate morphological characteristics and behaviour as in vivo. They can be grown
in sufficient numbers and manipulated easily (unlike the conventional cell cultures). The method is
available for license for cell culture products and systems suppliers. Research groups in obesity,
diabetes and inflammation are invited for joint R&D.
A Portuguese university has developed a technology that consists of the identification of a novel
peptide sequence that has affinity for starch, being part of the family of Carbohydrate Binding
Modules (CBM). Other starch-binding domains have been reported, but this technology reports a
novel one, derived from a human protein with affinity for glycogen. Partners are sought for
developing the technology for applications as the controlled release of drugs and tissue engineering.
An Israeli SME developed an award winning hydro-optic-based water disinfection technology that is
10,000 times more effective than existing methods. It provides unprecedented near 100%
disinfection while using Ultra Violet light and no chemicals. In existing installations it has replaced
such techniques as pasteurisation and demonstrated significant cost savings. Return on Investment
is within 6-12 months. Partners are sought for commercial agreements with technical assistance.
A Dutch/Australian company developed a machine that hydrates under various pressure regimes
compressed Coir Fibre blocks to an exact moisture level to enable them to be easily blended with
fertilisers, bio-inoculants, fungicides, perlite or other additives to create a value added substrate mix.
This ability provides the user with total and consistent control of a high-quality substrate product. The
company is looking for a license agreement with companies in the horticulture industry.
A UK SME has developed a method to convert Brownfield sites, wasteland areas, coal tips, and
polluted land into grassland. This innovative method drives the roots into compacted areas of ground,
eliminating the need for topsoil or turf. Grassland can be established within a 17 day period, as long
as fresh water is available and temperature prevails. The technology is cost effective and easy
solution for the conversion of wasteland. The company is seeking partners for licence agreements.
A researcher from a Spanish public university has developed a process for substituting milk saturated
fats by non-hydrogenated vegetable oils. This technology is useful in all types of curd and cheese
manufacturing, obtaining very healthy products without high saturated fat and cholesterol levels.
The researcher wishes to contact companies of dairy industry and milk sector to license the patent.
A Spanish university has developed an automated system for bulb analysis and classification. This system
supposes a solution for the soluble solid determination in materials with a wide range of variability. As it is
an automated system, the high performance makes possible a semi-industrial use. The research group
wishes to contact companies from the fruit manipulation sector and/or electronic equipment
manufacturers for the agrofood industry for technical cooperation and licensing agreements.
A French SME fully dedicated to the histological analysis of meat products is looking for potential
partners for cooperation concerning the development of techniques that visualise and monitor food
microstructure. The idea is to add value to an online analysis tool in order to be able to quantify the
level of meat destructuration percentage directly on the process line. By doing this the company will
be able to measure and correct automatically the impact of the machine’s parameters.
A German SME developed a technology for fast and contactless optical measurement of highly
complex surface topographies and sample geometries from nanoscale up to cm scale. It can be applied
in various industries e.g. for roughness or texturing analysis, dimensioning of macro and micro
geometries, planarity control or surface control. New industrial tasks and application areas are sought
in which the technology can be utilised, e.g. for R&D, quality or production control, damage analysis.
A UK company offers a robust portable instrument for on-the-spot toxicity testing in wastewater that
delivers results within 10 minutes. Extensively field-tested by the water/wastewater treatment
industry, the proven technology measures the oxygen consumption of a reference bacterium when
mixed with a sample of wastewater. Advantages include low-cost hardware & consumables, ease of
use & compact/portable design. The company is seeking commercial partners.
A North West UK SME offers its expertise in planning, constructing and equipping public-service-type
buildings such as hospitals using innovative building techniques and materials. The SME is seeking
partners with strong local connections and the ability to supply equipment to form joint ventures.
A UK university has developed a new method for water treatment that uses cavitation to destroy
bacteria and small organisms in the water, instead of chemicals. The method needs very low energy
input. The inventors are looking for partners for a license agreement, mainly manufacturers of water
treatment devices, in order to develop and manufacture products based on the technology.
