The National Documentation Centre (EKT) was awarded with the Best
Practice Award 2013 during the annual conference organised by the En-
terprise Europe Network, in Vilnius, Lithuania, on the 16th of October. The
award refers to the successful cooperation between the Greek Network
and the newly established Albanian Enterprise Europe Network. In July
2012,
Greek partner EKT and Turkish partner Ege University Science and
Technology Centre, were appointed mentors of the Albanian partners,
which had just joined the Network. The mentorship turned soon into suc-
cessful cooperation.
First of all, concerned Network partners agreed on a common action plan
to address the newcomers’priorities and needs, appropriate performance
targets and training essentials. In this context, EKT identified the ‘Giro-
kaster Trade Fair’ as an excellent opportunity to organise bi-lateral b2b
meetings. As a result, eight PartnershipAgreements were signed between
Greek and Albanian companies. Existing business interests prompted a
mentoring scheme with Albania. EKT together with Ege University Sci-
ence and Technology Centre could efficiently transfer their know-how
to their Albanian colleagues, thus increasing the business opportunities
companies from the three countries.

From 16 to 18 of October, the National Documentation Centre (EKT) organised
an International Conference focused at the latest developments and trends in
regard to policies affecting Open Data and Open Access to publicly funded sci-
entific research with a particular focus on relevant developments in the Med-
iterannean countries.
The last couple of years have witnessed very important developments with re-
gards to the wide adoption of open access to publicly funded research and the
opening up of public sector data. Lowering the barrier for reuse of the publicly
funded research and public data, is expected to boost innovation, help address
effectively big environmental, energy and health-related issues and unlock a
significant financial potential for Europe.
Drawing on these developments, the Conference focused on how to further
align policies and measure impact at regional, national and European level.
The panel included an excellent line-up of international and Greek speakers
such as specialists on open access, research policy-makers, representatives of
research funders and research performing institution administrators, civil soci-
ety representatives, European Commission officials, as well as representatives
from major international associations. During this conference, the EU project
Mediterranean Open Access Network's (ΜedOANet) final conference also took
place. The project facilitates the development of open access policies in six
Mediterranean countries: Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Turkey.
Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation
and Science, addressed a video-taped opening speech to the Conference un-
derlining that Open Access to research funded by the Commission is becoming
mandatory in the framework of projects funded under the Horizon2020 fund-
ing programme.

Τhe two-day "Creativity: Innovative, Open and Economically Sustainable
Models of Creative Production" international conference, organized by EKT
was successfully completed. The conference took place in Athens, on 30/9
and 01/10/2013 as part of the European project "Creativity: Innovative Mod-
els of Production and Access", in collaboration with the National Museum
of Contemporary Art, Athens. During the conference, speakers from Greece
and abroad, academicians, artists and active young entrepreneurs gave their
mark at a conference that managed to combine the latest technological ad-
vances with the current artistic production, seen through the prism of inno-
vative, open creative models and the conditions they require.
The first day of the "Creativity" Conference focused on the emergence of the
productive dynamics of creative industries, such as digital applications and
software development, architecture, design, production of cultural content,
advertising etc. The participants’ positions clearly evidenced that the cre-
ative industries are no longer viewed with skepticism, as their contribution
to the economic and social reconstruction can be of great importance. Their
significance as an example of production is even greater if we take into ac-
count that they are primarily based on collaborative models and open struc-
tures with self-productive yet mass character.
During the second day of the conference, the interest was mainly focused
on the practical application of "openness" to both art and entrepreneurship.
The presentation of the new group exhibition organized by the National
Museum of Contemporary Art named "Afresh", launched on October 24th,
and of six works implemented with the support of the National Documenta-
tion Centre, highlighted the current role of the "commons", of "openness"
and new sources of creation.
