Highlights
Horizon 2020, the EU funding
programme for research and
innovation with nearly €80
billion of funding available over 7
years (2014 to 2020), has already
completed its first two years.
This issue’s featured article aims to
discuss Horizon 2020’s course and
results up until now, and also to
present its new work programmes
for the years 2016-2017 in sectors
with Greek interest. In addition,
there is a particular reference
to the “Seal of Excellence”, a
new initiative that will reward
innovative proposals in a regional
level.
Horizon 2020 supports the“Europe
2020” strategy which promotes
research and innovation as key
drivers for smart and sustainable
growth, and aims to effectively
deal with important societal
challenges.
The
National
Documentation
Centre (EKT), in accordance with
its role as National Contact Point
for Horizon 2020 to support
Greek research teams, organized a
number of related events.
During these events we spoke with
EC officials and Greek national
representatives, who referred to
Horizon 2020’s new tools, such
as the SME Instrument, and to
the Greek actors’ participation.
Three of these interviews that
specifically concern the sector of
ICT and Energy are published in
this issue (in Greek).

EKT- National Contact Point
for Horizon 2020
In a time where digital content
is becoming more and more
important in the sector of edu-
cation, the National Docume-
ntation Centre (EKT), drawing
from the completion of the Online
Learning Repository for Rich
Educational Resources (MITIDA),
organized an event entitled
"Presentation and ways of utilizing
the digital cooperative platform of
educational content MITIDA".
The event took place at the
National
Hellenic
Research
Foundation, on Thursday 29
October 2015.
MITIDA is an innovative and user
friendly
online
environment
specially designed to support
collaborative work among the
educational
communities
of
Greece and to promote student-
based,
active
and
informal
education. Using a contemporary
set of tools and open educational
resources of ΕΚΤ's e-infrastructure,
the
participating
educators
are
enabled
to
collaborate,
experiment and create their own
digital interactive educational
content, contributing to the enha-
ncement of educational activity
as well as their own professional
development.
Within the scope of the project and
by using primary content of the
EKT repositories as well as other
open resources, there have been
developed exemplary applications
for three wide knowledge fields:
Modern Greek History and Culture,
Ancient Greek and Byzantine
History and Culture and Natural
and Urban Environment in Greece.

An important project regarding the
relationship between Science and
Religionwas recently implemented
by the National Hellenic Research
Foundation/Institute of Historical
Research.
The aim of the Nature and Religion
in
South
Eastern
European
Space (NARSES) project, funded
by
Aristeia-National
Strategic
Research Framework, was to map
the relationship between sciences
and religion from the 4th c. AD to
the 20th c. in Southeastern Europe
and East Mediterranean.
It focused on social formations
where
Eastern
Christianity
was, depending on the period,
dominant or important religious
tradition.
The interdisciplinary team of the
project
comprised
specialists
in history of science, history of
philosophy, history of religion,
history of education and sociology.
In addition, the National Hellenic
Research
Foundation/Institute
of Historical Research and the
National & Kapodistrian University
of
Athens/Epistemology
&
Science Education Lab organized
the
International
Conference
"Science & Religion" in Athens, 3-5
September 2015, associated with
the NARSES project.
The Conference was broad-
casted live by the National Docu-
mentation Centre, while the videos
of the Conference are uploaded
at the Helios-NHRF Repository,
and
NARSES’s results are available with
open access and can be found at
the project’s website.
