Highlights
Innovative research achievements
& technologies and interactive
exhibits were presented in the
81st Thessaloniki International
Fair at the kiosk 15 of the
General Secretariat for Research
and Technology from 10 to 18
September 2016. Visitors had
the opportunity to get in touch
with the world of research and
technology and to be informed for
the latest results of the cooperation
between
Research
Centres,
Universities and Enter-prises.
We visited the exhibition and we
found out the most interesting
exhibits. Among them:
• Be There Now! is an interactive
system that allows the exploration
of different sceneries and immerses
the users in various landscapes, by
depicting the visitors standing
before it, within the landscapes
and the vistas projected, as if they
were at that place (FORTH-ICS)
• GeoMAREA: Research and
development
of
an
in-situ
underwater gamma-ray spectro-
meter for low-level radio-activity
measurements (HCMR)
• The SARAFun project: Smart
Assembly Robots with Advanced
Functionalities
(ITI-Information
Technologies Institute, CERTH)
• Photonics for Nano-applications:
Research and development of
nanostructured materials, devices
and methodologies alongside with
studies of fundamental processes
using photons (National Hellenic
Research Foundation-Theoretical
and Physical Chemistry Institute)
• SMARTEGE: an application
designed to train users around
electricity
issues,
using
the
gamification
methodology
(SAICON, KINNO, EPIS).

Europe Network Awards were
given across three key categories.
New Partnerships: The award
honoured Aquabion GmbH from
Germany and Rabmer GreenTech
in Austria. The Network facilitated
cooperation between the two
SMEs. Aquabion GmbH's turnover
has since increased by 10-15 %
while both businesses have hired
new personnel.
New Directions: The award
was presented to Germany’s
Novihum Technologies. Thanks
to the Network, the company
was able to access funding from
the SME Instrument to develop a
production plant and hire 20 new
people.
New
Horizons:
The
award
honoured Smartive from Spain.
The company was also able to
access funding from the SME
Instrument after guidance from
the Network. The funds were
used to expand the company's
market share which is expected to
increase its annual turnover from
EUR 500,000 to EUR 5 million in
2019.
Also among the finalists was the
Greek startup company Intale.
In 2010, the young entrepreneur
Fanis Koutouvelis created a digital
platform that provides "superhero
powers" to small shop owners and
convenience store managers, by
providing them with cutting-edge
management tools. With support
from the Enterprise Europe
Network, Intale has grown and is
currently eyeing foreign markets.
