The
European
Union
Commissioner for Research,
Science and Innovation, Carlos
Moedas and the Deputy Minister
of the Ministry of Education,
the competent authority for
Research
and
Innovation,
Kostas Fotakis, were the key
speakers at the event organised
by the General Secretariat for
Research and Technology (GSRT)
for
the
Euro-Mediterranean
PRIMA initiative (Partnership
for Research & Innovation in
the Mediterranean Area), at
the National Hellenic Research
Foundation in Athens on
Monday 25th September 2017.
Commissioner
C.
Moedas
stressed the need for further
enhancement of the value
of research to society. He
pointed out that the PRIMA
initiative (
) is
a model of science diplomacy,
based on the principles of
solidarity and equality, with
particular importance for the
Mediterranean
and
solving
the
multiple
challenges
associated with climate change,
drought, population increase
and migration. He noted that
Mediterranean countries may
be separated by borders but
science, geography and culture
unites them.
In his exclusive interview to EKT,
Carlos Moedas talks about the
initiatives of the Commission
for Open Science and Open
Innovation, and presents the
activities for the exploitation
of research results, as well as
the next steps towards the 9th
Framework
Programme
for
research and innovation.
With its presentation entitled
‘Management
and
promotion
of Greek cultural heritage public
digital
space:
EKT
proposes
solutions
using
cutting-edge
technologies’, EKT took part in the
interesting "Museums, Skills and
New Perspectives in the digital
era" info day which was organised
by the Hellenic Open University
and the research group DAISSy
(Dynamic
Ambient
Intelligent
Social Systems) in Patras on 6th
November 2017. The goal of
the info day was two-fold: to
present the European project
Mu.SA – Museum Sector Alliance
–the co-ordinators of which are
the Hellenic Open University
and the DAISSy research group
as well as its first results. Elena
Lagoudi, Museologist and Harris
Georgiadis, Software Engineer,
presented
EKT’s
Repository
services and SearchCulture.gr, both
of which captured the attention of
attendees. E.Lagoudi talked about
EKT’s repository service which
is provided online and meets
the needs of organisations with
reputable content that want to
distribute and promote their digital
collections and H. Georgiadis
presented
SearchCulture.gr,
a
digital content accumulator and
an open online portal which offers
centralised access to and single
search of the country’s digital
cultural content produced by 43
reputable organisations and now
containing 55 collections with
161,881 documents.
One of the largest research centres
of the country, the National
Hellenic
Research
Foundation
(NHRF), uses its wealth of research
and educational experience to
respond to the scientific demands
of young people, broadening
their scope of scientific pursuits.
To facilitate this, it has organized,
for the second successive year, the
educational action ‘Research Tours’.
The action in question is mainly
intended for high school students,
who will have the chance to visit
the various Institutes of the NHRF
(Institute of Historical Research,
Institute of Biology, Medicinal
Chemistry
&
Biotechnology,
Theoretical & Physical Chemistry
Institute)
and
the
National
Documentation Centre, to meet
the researchers, visit the labs and
learn about the research being
done there.
Visits are scheduled for specific
weeks during the school year. This
year, the NHRF will open its doors
to receive students from all schools
in the country at three different
times (6-10 November 2017, 5-9
February 2018, 23-27 April 2018).
During these visits, students will,
among other things, learn about
the Foundation and the school’s
chosen institute, visit labs and the
library and take part in discussions.
Using a realistic but imaginative
approach,
the
objective
of
the initiative “Knowledge and
Partnership
Bridges”,
based
on a plan by the General
Secretariat
for
Strategy
and
Private Investment, Ministry of
Economy
and
Development,
and being implemented by the
National Documentation Centre,
is to bring high quality human
capital of the country together
and to create collaboration links
between them. This networking
of Greeks can strengthen the
growth prospects of the country
and ensure that participating
Greeks become part of a joint
endeavour. As part of this effort,
the country’s scientific personnel
living abroad can have a direct
active role in the transformation
of the Greek economy, forming
nodes
of
productive
and
innovative international centres.
The
platform
www.
knowledgebridges.gr,
designed
to meet the aforementioned
objectives, operates on three
pillars: a) the networking and
subsequent partnerships through
the creation of a global network
of Greek scientists, professionals
and entrepreneurs, b) updates
on funding opportunities in
Greece and c) the mapping of
Greeks who live and work abroad.
The
website
of
“Bridges”
presents cases of renowned
scientists,
professionals
and
entrepreneurs, both in Greece
and abroad, who excel, as well
as cases of young people who
start their activities in Greece
or abroad, hoping to succeed
despite the great difficulties.
Greeks who live all over the world
have the opportunity to become
acquainted with the initiative.
The “Knowledge and Partnership
Bridges” tour abroad included,
until now, Berlin, Stockholm and
Amsterdam. “Bridges” have also
visited cities of Greece, such as
Drama, Serres and Thessaloniki
in order to inform young people,
researchers,
graduates
and
entrepreneurs about the benefits of
connecting through participating
in the
.
