A Spanish university has designed a modular device to apply microwave for agricultural soils and substratum
disinfection. The system is an alternative to chemical treatments. The radiation effects have been evaluated in some
weed seeds and pathogen soil microorganisms. It achieves a homogeneous superficial distribution of heating. The
research group is looking for companies or research groups interested in improvement of the system and its
commercialisation.
A research centre involved in agrofood thematics has developed a vegetable product (Italian patent) as carrier for
probiotic strains, with beneficial effects on the gastro-intestinal tract. Volunteers fed with this functional food became
colonized as a result by the probiotic bacterium used, thus demonstrating that the product represents an efficient
delivery system for probiotic strains. The centre is looking for partners either for further research cooperation or for
production under license.
One of the leading Bulgarian companies, specialised in the production of bottling equipment and packaging machines
for the needs of food industry, chemistry etc. has developed and produces a range of machines for rinsing, filling,
bottling, dosing and packing of liquids, powdered products, creams, foods and beverages. The company seeks a partner
for technical co-operation, strategic partnership on foreign markets or commercial agreement with technical assistance.
A small French company has developed a “stopper system” destined to be stuck on carton containers usually intended
for liquid aliments such as milk, fruit juice and other beverages. The proposed “stopper system” has a hinge and is
glued, in closed position, onto the carton, which has pre-cut forms on the external wall, the internal waterproof coating
being left intact. Partner sought: an industrial company interested in buying or licensing the patent.
An Israeli SME specializing in flexible packaging has developed a special sealing system/technology to use flexible
pouches as a package for carbonated beverages. In contrast to the current cans or bottles, the innovative technology
enables to use flexible pouches for beverages with average and high percentage of carbon oxide, CO2, developed inside
the liquid. They are looking for partners to commercialise the offered technology.
A French university patented a technology that consists of a diagnostic for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, and other
neuromuscular affections, based on a molecular proof that can be early tested on a muscular biopsy. At present,
diagnostic of ALS is based on symptom analysis. The lack of sensibility of this method explains that the disease is often
lately recognized and lately treated. The university is looking for a co-development or a license agreement with an
industrial partner.
A group from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain has developed a simple and quick assay to screen for Hypoxia
Inducible Factor modulator drugs. The technique can be implemented as a high-throughput screening for candidate
drugs. They are interested in technology transfer or testing the company’s compounds in the assay.
A small Dutch company developed a biodegradable drug-eluting coating for controlled release of various types of drugs.
When applied on medical devices, it allows the controlled release of a drug, which prevents occurrence of potential
adverse reactions. The company is looking for a partner for further joint development. The company must have expertise
in medical devices in combination with clinical evaluation of medical devices.
A German research institute for genetics has developed a real multiplex method for sequencing complex mixtures of
nucleotide acids in one single reaction. Contrary to other multiplex strategies there are no restrictions in primer
design/reaction conditions. Use for diagnostic procedures in medicine and for analyses in biotech/environmental
sciences. Industrial partners (e.g. biotech companies, manufacturers of analysing instruments) for further co-
development and/or license agreements sought.
A French university patented a new family of PDE5 inhibitors. PDE5 inhibitors are currently used today, in particular for
treatment of erectile dysfunction, but they equally inhibit pulmonary, smooth muscle and platelet’s PDE5.The PDE5
inhibitor family discovered displays a tissue-specific activity that permits to reduce side effects of treatment currently
used today. They're looking for an industrial partner for collaborative development (pre-clinical and clinical) and/or a
license agreement.
Researchers at the University of Cranfield, UK, have designed a Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) device for the
detection of airborne chemicals. The device offers improved portability and increased range compared to existing
systems. The university is looking for commercial partners to provide funding and other input for prototype design and
build.
